The author met with Pine Taiapa and discussed flax. Pine Taiapa concerned at loss of good fibres and skills and sought to revitalise the craft. Describes best flaxes for fibre and their planting requirements. Modern cultivars also described. "Māori children, when troublesome, used to be made to lick the glue-like substance that oozes from the flax clump when the leaves are cut."
