Record class

There are five classes of record in Ngā Rauropi Whakaoranga:

name: records about organisms or objects.
reference: records about published or unpublished literature that have been reviewed for relevant information.
other: miscellanous records that cover a subject that does not fit within the other record classes.
common name: records for a common name in any language. They provide links to records where that common name has been cited. These records may sometimes contain additional information about that common name.
topic: a record that is an index to other records within the database that are relevant to the specified topic. These records are created to assist browsing on the specific topic, particularly when some records relevant to the topic may not contain the actual word or phrase.

Records of class name, reference, and other may contain information under a range of fields, whilst common name and topic records primarily provide indexing lists.

Record id

A unique identifier for the record.

Orthographic variances

Information on the variations in spelling that have been used for an organism.

Pastime

Information on the pastimes associated with a plant.

Previous names

Previous names contains some of the names that have been used in the literature to refer to an organism. It also contains old names encountered during information searches. It is not a complete list of synonyms, and may contain entries that would not be recognised as formal synonyms by a taxonomist.

Author, primary

The main author of a reference.

Author, secondary

The secondary author of a reference.

The author for reference records which are books.

The date on which a reference was published.

The location, normally city, in which the reference was published.

The name of the publisher of a reference.

The title of the series in which the work was published.

The number of the first page of a publication, or section of a publicatin.

Volume

The number of the volume in which reference was published. Especially for journal articles.
