Economic uses of Pittosporum spp., pp 90-94 (in Pacific, Australia, Asia as well as New Zealand). Presence of saponins. Medicinal uses, poisonous properties, insecticides. P. eugenioides, P. tenuifolium mentioned. Medicinal and poisonous properties common throughout range of genus - known to native peoples. P. eugenioides, abundant fragrant flowers used by Māori, mixed with fat and applied to the body. Essential oil might be suitable for the perfume trade.
