Ngā Rauropi Whakaoranga

Letter reads: "I am in receipt of your memorandum of 17th of this month re the shipment of Ngaro seed to St. Helena. We happen to have about 14lbs. of this seed surplus to our requirements and could forward it. The seed is now two seasons old, so that the germination will be very low. Germination figures are at present being taken and could be supplied when completed. I understand that Phormium at St. Helena is grown on terrace land and under fairly dry conditions. This would not be very suitable for the variety Ngaro, as it is a semi-swamp type. Unfortunately, it is the only variety of which we have stocks of seed at the moment. If the matter is kept in mind seed from some of our dry-land types could be supplied when available." Signed A. L. P., Assistant Botanist.
