Ngā Rauropi Whakaoranga

matakauri; mākakauere, mākakauri (East Coast synonyms collected by Williams 1894) 

Kūmara cultivar. Cultivated in the northern districts - Bay of Islands, Hokianga, Kaitaia. Dark purple skin and flesh (Colenso 1881). Name recorded on the East Cape as a pre-European variety.

Reported by Williams 1894 as still found in cultivation.
