Kūmara cultivar. One of Waīna variants. European pre-1900. Dark purple skin, large, smooth, inclined to ovoid. Flesh dark yellow with distinct purple centre. Collected as Parakipere ("blackberry") in Kennedy Bay, Coromandel and Waimehana Bay, Northland. Roots and leaves illustrated in Yen 1963. One of the cultivars (Yen 500) sent to Japan in 1966 for safe-keeping. Returned 19 November 1988.
