From 1942-1945, 244 tons of dry agar seaweed collected. (Pterocladia lucida and P. capillacea). 48% North Auckland West Coast, 38% Bay of Plenty, 12% East Cape. New areas could be opened up. Local collecting difficulties need to be overcome.
