1) Best 1898, 1907: Variety known to Tūhoe. The variegated flax.

2) Best 1942: listed

3) Williams 1971: a variety of flax

4) Gregory Collection, Kaitaia. Used for kits, hats. Green brown leaves. Good fibre and easy to work. Turns clean white. Has kōrari.

5) Andersen 1907: Variegated. Valued as ornamental plants rather than as material for fabric.

6) Andersen 1926: bronzy foliage.

7) "Commonly used for basketry. Grows with straight, standing leaves, making the bush neat and compact. Identified by dark red edges of leaf and midrib." Grows up to 7 ft. Softness. (Resource notes, Teachers College, Christchurch. Authors unknown)
