Potato cultivar recognized by Tūhoe. Dark flesh. No longer seen here. (Best 1902).

Taylor 1870 describes parareka as a large white potato.

The Kurahaupo canoe is said to have brought " no less than three varieties of potato to these islands—viz., the Parareka, the Wini, and the Maori." (Gudgeon 1903)
