Potato cultivar imported into New Zealand by Captain Marion. Soil must be fertilised with ash of burnt timber, fern, etc. (Servant 1973)

Potato cultivar recognized by Tūhoe. Not seen here now ( Best 1902)

Taylor 1870: Uwi, winter potato.

[NB Uwhi is the name for yam Dioscorea spp, a plant brought from Polynesia; only able to be grown in warmer micro-climates. Ed. ]
