An account of techniques, materials and designs used. See review of same in Journal of the Polynesian Society 83(4) : 483-485 by D. R. Simmons. Simmons points out that there is no mention of tapa made from houhere (lacebark, Hoheria populnea). In the Otago Museum there is a roll of houhere tapa about 58cms wide and more than 280cms.long. First published in Hamilton"s "The Art Workmanship of the Māori Race in New Zealand". University of Otago, Dunedin 1896. Other smaller examples of houhere tapa in existence.
