Large number of kūmara varieties gradually declined after arrival of Europeans. Walsh describes soil conditions, cultivation techniques, planting, ceremonies, care of crop (windbreak, fencing, weeding), harvesting and storage, cooking. When kūmarahou in flower, nearly time to plant kūmara.
