Rongoitua (traveller from Hawaiki) disliked various foods he was given. Tried fernroot, hīnau berry, kāuru (ti root), mamaku. Introduced kūmara to people, by mixing kao (dried kūmara) with water. People were delighted with the taste. (White 1887; Vol III)
