Harakeke cultivar. Variegated.

1)Following notes from Flax Commissioners Report 1870, 1871:

Kelly, New Plymouth, 1870; Beautiful plant. Leaf bright green, striped longitudinally by brimstone colour. Edge and keel orange. Some leaves green or very partially striped. Fibre very good. Taranaki Native; for best garments

Armstrong, Christchurch; may be referring to this plant under fibre measurements he gives for "variegated kind ". % fibre = 18.8

Opunake Native, 1871; breaking strain 79

Woon, Waitara; very white and strong fibre

Heaphy, West Coast; yields best fibre

Planted in Botanic Gardens, Wellington, in 1870. Seed from Taranaki.

2) Best 1942: striped or variegated variety

3) Williams 1971 : variegated flax

4) Andersen 1907: Bright green leaf, striped with sulphur. Edge and keel coloured like karaka.
