Taranaki Native; Rough garments, ropes only
Jenkins, Waikato; Bluish green leaves, large and long. Black edge at base. Good fibre by machinery. Like ngarowaaka, pupu, poi taniwha, ngutu kaka, tumara, it is distinguished by base of the leaf.
Schnackenburgibid, Raglan; black border...best of all the kinds for all purposes.
West Coast, Heaphy, 1871; stiff fibre.
