The writer was employed by the New Zealand Flaxmillers Association to investigate yellow-leaf disease in flax, with the object of finding its cause and means of combating it. Also looked at flax breeding. Investigation centred at Miranui Mill, near Shannon. Discusses effects of grazing and weeds on plant growth. Flax varieties were selected from Miranui and Whitaunui swamps, and obtained from individuals, and their fibre yields, quality, and disease resistance assessed. Different cutting methods are described and assessed.
