Harakeke cultivar.

1) From Flax Commissioners Reports 1870, 1871:

Nairn, 1870; Baskets, matting only. Never planted. Easily broken with a jerk. Dark green, black margin to leaves. Very tall. Leaves bend outwards.

Armstrong, Christchurch, 1870; Leaves very large, coarse looking. Edges and base of leaf dark brown. Fibre 19.6%.

Hawkes Bay Native, 1871; Good white fibre, silky and soft

2) Best 1942; Lax leaved variety
