Jenkins, Waikato, Flax Commissioners Report 1870, 1871: Yellowish green leaves, large and long. Brown butts. Red edge. Good fibre for machinery. Distinguished from ngaro, ngaro waaka, poi taniwha, ngutu kaka, tumara, by base of leaf.
