Jenkins, Waikato Flax Commissioners Report 1870, 1871: Dark green leaves, large and long. Red edge. Kind of wave on leaf. Good fibre for machinery. Distinguished from ngaro, ngaro waaka, pupu, poi, taniwha, ngutu kaka by base of leaf.
