Harakeke cultivar. Following notes from Flax Commissioners Report 1870, 1871:

Jenkins, Waikato, 1870; Dark green leaves, large and long. Good fibre for machinery. Like ngaro, ngaro waaka, pupu, poi, poi taniwha, tumara, distinguished by base of leaf.
