Flax root a powerful medicine, related to sarsaparilla. Decoction increases secretions of mucous membranes and external skin.

Purgative, expectorant, strongly diuretic. After its use, skin covered with perspiration. "Assured most inveterate cases of syphilis, chronic anthematic diseases and scrophulosis have yielded to it"

Nauseous taste, so mixed with kawakawa leaves or mānuka.
