Rāhui protected forest products, cultivated crops, fernroot, flax, or places where ochre obtained.
p.87 When Ngāti-Whaoa slew Koroua at Otakatake on the Paeroa Block, head stuck on rāhui post to prevent people digging fernroot at a certain place. Some time later, a member of Ngāti Whaoa took skull and planted a taro therein, to produce food for his child, given name Ngā-Taro.
p.88 A grove of tutu, known as Ure-takohekohe at Ruatoki formerly protected by rāhui.
