Ngā Rauropi Whakaoranga

In 1880s, author given two unknown specimens of tī from a deserted native garden. Identified as tī pore, Cordyline terminalis. Settlers in early days confused this with tī rauriki, C. pumilio - a wild species commonly eaten but never cultivated. Tī pore grown in most northern settlements but not in great quantities.

Large root with greenish white pulpy fibre. Propagation by cuttings. Cultivation and preparation processes described. Tī pore esteemed for taste, nutrition and keeping qualities.
