Phormium tenax 'Atarau'. Harakeke cultivar. Orchiston Collection.

Description
Harakeke cultivar. A handsome bush, quite a contrast with a distinctive deep blue tone about its tall upright bronzy leaves. Straight, strong, pointed leaf with wine red tonings inside the old blades. Very blue bloom on the back of the blades. Very few flower heads.
Fibre
Strips well and fairly easily , but not really a muka flax. Dries out to rather deep mixed green-fawn shadings when boiled one minute. Unboiled it remains a fawn-brown colour. The scrape turned a lovely yellow-gold the same day.
