Author gives a general physical description of the Māori and goes on to describe their "disfigurations" in some detail (e.g. tattooing, pierced ears, depilation). The leprosy type disease ngerengere is described and causes suggested. Other diseases are described and frequency noted. Treatment methods are outlined - the use of karakia, steam baths. A list of medicinal plants is given with information taken from Taylor"s "Leaf from the Natural History of New Zealand"
