Account of HMS Dromedary's call at Bay of Islands to trade for kauri spars. Māori `well acquainted with different herbs and plants" (p.293). "There did not appear to be any particular description of persons to whom they applied in cases of sickness but...they have recourse to different herbs and plants, with which they seem extremely well acquainted; and one of the gentlemen who was afflicted with an eruption on his lips was cured by the application of a decoction of herbs given to him by a native."
