A good general account of Māori use of plants for food, construction materials and fibre. Author quotes a study (no reference) of a two year field trial on a clay loam, when a very mediocre clump of bracken produced a 22-fold increase in wet weight of rhizomes. Judging by the rhizome diameters seen, increase in an open fertile soil could be 50-fold in two years.
