Article on the development of prostratin, an anti-HIV drug developed from the mamala tree, Homalanthus nutans, after samples sent to US National Cancer Institute from Samoa. Ethnobotanist Paul Cox brokered an agreement to ensure that drug proceeds went back to the Samoan government and the village where Cox first encountered the drug's source.
