From Rene Orchiston's notes: "The 88 year old lady who gave me my original plant was a very skilled craftswoman who had helped produce many fine, patterned whariki which have been in use for many years in the local meeting houses tucked in the hills of the Urewera. This was their favourite whariki flax." Also a fine kete flax. Do not boil but drag through boiling water.
