Ngā Rauropi Whakaoranga

The ancestor Kahu planted kūmara at Waitangi (or Waiteki, its old name), which did not grow owing to the coldness of the climate.

Also said to have planted a certain kind of fernroot peculiar to one part of Kaingaroa harbour and called after him Kahu"s fernroot (ko te haruhe o Kahu) (p147). The later canoe Rangimata arrived at the north-east end of Chatham Island. The "karaka-berry" was planted at Wairarapa. See also Shand 1911
