The authors trialled 3 popular taro varieties (Niue, preferred cultivar of Samoans; Ni Tonga, popular with Tongans in New Zealand; and the most common New Zealand cultivar, variant RR (Matthews 1985)), to assess whether large corms could be produced in one growing season. They found that corms of good size and quality could be produced, though the taste and texture may be different from imported varieties.
