Report on Māori housewarming - ceremony at Whakarewarewa to consecrate house of Mr C. E. Nelson

Use of kawakawa and kūmara in ceremony. For feast, "large kelp baskets of preserved tītī from Stewart Island...Totara bark cases of kereru and koko (parson-bird) from Tūhoe-land, Galatea, and Taupo...Taro from Whakatane... Kūmara from everywhere... Mussells, eels, shellfish, pigs etc from various districts." Dessert - "steeped tawa berries and some fernroot, the latter from Te Rangi- Karipiripia, of Ngaroto, near Atiamuri." Fine flax and kiekie sleeping mats.
