p.196: Taukata brought knowledge of kūmara to New Zealand. Vessel sent to Hawaiki to obtain seed, brought to Whakatane in Matatua canoe. Taukata slain at first harvest, in order that mauri of kūmara would not go to Hawaiki. His skull was placed in a cultivation at Whakatane for generations.
