p92. Tamamutu assaulted the pā Wharekiri at Waikare to avenge the death of his sister. Took some karaka berries from the pā and planted them at Hamaria (about 16m from Taupo on eastern shore). Called the karaka Whare-kiri. There are several very ancient karaka trees there. Writer was baptised under them by Bishop Selwyn on 5/11/1842, at age of 6.

p.94. Parekawa wanted to promote the interests of her brother Tutetawha-whare-oneone. Decided to make a large supply of huahua (birds preserved in fat). It was a good year for birds. When cooked put in papa, or patua, made of tānekaha (Phyllocladus trichomanoides) bark. They made a patua of extraordinary size to hold the contents of all the other papa and to carry on a canoe. Gave it the name "Waiariki". The patua was carried on 2 canoes with a platform joining them.
