"The old variety "Rua Rangi" of the Tawa..., is no longer considered to be distinct, probably because the tree is now of no economic value. The Māori had a very good reason for distinguishing this variety, which he recognized as having bigger leaves and fruit, and timber of a grain that was more easily worked" (Anderson 1954)
