Medicinal
"On Stewart Island and the Titi Islands the tree called titiaweka has scented leaves and these were used to allay high temperatures and reduce fever. These leaves are also said to have a beneficial effect on sick persons who put them in a bath or who steam them" (Beattie 1994)
