Ngā Rauropi Whakaoranga

TĀWARI, whākou (Best 1908), whāwhākou (Beever 1991). Latter terms used for tree particularly when in flower. 

Whākou, along with pōānanga (Clematis) and rātā blossom said to produce the best honey (Best 1908).

Bark of whāwhākou used for dyeing flax samples black. (Matina of Henui, Flax Exhibition Catalogue 1871)
